Cosplay Contest Rules

  1. Participants must be between the ages of 13-19.
  2. Cosplay costume must represent a literary character. Your costume must come from a book. (Comic books are books, too, y’all.)
  3. This is a family friendly Book Festival. Keep it clean.
  4. Creativity is everything.
  5. Weapons policy—If you are bringing a weapon of any kind to the Book Festival as part of your cosplay costume, it must be a prop/costume weapon. Any weapon capable of firing will not be allowed. No steel will be permitted. No chains or nets or other objects that could harm the public. No explosives or chemicals that could “make a mess.” No fireworks permitted. Arrows and bolts must be dull.  WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REMOVE THE WEAPON AND THE WEAPON HOLDER FROM THE BOOK FESTIVAL. 


About the Judge
Faye Mortis

Faye Mortis is a costume designer, model and cosplay entertainer based in San Antonio, TX. She discovered the unique creative pastime of cosplay at a young age through manga and comic books. Faye is a self-taught artist who has not only perfected her skills in drawing and painting, but designs and sews all of her own cosplay costumes. She is an active attendee of San Japan, and travels extensively across the US to showcase her cosplay at major anime and cosplay conventions. Faye has been a performer, guest panelist, and host to many anime conventions and is honored to serve as a judge at this year’s Cosplay Contest at the San Antonio Book Festival.
