Fresh Ink Youth Slam will present an educational performance on poetry slams, teaching teens the elements and basics of poetry slamming.

Fresh Ink Youth Slam is a community organization dedicated to promoting literacy and the literary arts to the young people of San Antonio, Texas. It works among the community to host workshops in creative writing, poetry, and performance based poetry. Believing that everyone’s voice in important, it strives to provide a forum for young people to utilize their own voice in a creative space. Its hope is to make poetry available to the masses for artistic and healing purposes.

Moderator
Christopher "Rooster" Martinez

Christopher “Rooster” Martinez is a spoken word poet and educator from San Antonio, TX. He is near completion of the MA/MFA program in Creative Writing, Literature and Social Justice at Our Lady of the Lake University. He is an organizer with Fresh Ink Youth Slam, and co-founded the Blah Poetry Spot. His work has appeared or is forthcoming in the Pittsburgh Poetry Review, Pilgrimage Press, and Sagebrush Review. Christopher has spoken at national writing conferences and performed at numerous venues throughout Texas, TedXYouth San Antonio, and Al Dhafra Air Base in Abu Dhabi UAE. He was recently awarded a residency at Lanier High School in 2015 and 2016.
