Two of San Antonio’s most established non-profits, the San Antonio Public Library Foundation (SAPLF) and Los Compadres de San Antonio Missions, will join forces to bring #1 New York Times bestselling authors, Laura Bush, former First Lady of the United States, and her daughter, Jenna Bush Hager, contributing correspondent for NBC News’ TODAY, to the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts for a luncheon and conversation featuring their new children’s book, Our Great Big Backyard. The book will commemorate the 100thanniversary of the National Park Service and is a tribute to our National Parks.
Our Literary Mission Luncheon will feature Charline McCombs as the Honorary Chair and The Tobin Endowment as the Presenting Sponsor. The luncheon will include a conversation with Mrs. Bush and Jenna on their ardent advocacy of parks and libraries and will include a special reading by both authors. Proceeds will benefit SAPLF and Los Compadres, to help provide support of our libraries and the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The Library Foundation promotes the power of information, imagination, and ideas thru the freedom that library services offer to our community. Los Compadres provides support for restoration, preservation and development for our Missions National Historical Park. Together, these institutions are champions for two of the Bush family’s passions – libraries and parks.
Both of these established and steadfast organizations embrace the “mind-body-spirit” values – to strive to be the very best with the available resources. An investment in your library system is an investment in a free civic institution in our community that is uncompromisingly successful. An investment in your parks and missions is an investment in historic preservation, the environment, and tourism.
