L3 Literary Feast with Adan Medrano

Guests enjoyed truly Texas Mexican Cocteles and Botanas, and of course, warm conversation before Adan showcased his cooking skills. All proceeds from this feast benefited the L3 Committee and its efforts to raise funds for the Latino Collection at the Library!

The Library Foundation’s L³ Committee seeks to ensure all generations of San Antonians know and understand the vast richness of the City’s Latino cultural heritage. The committee promotes awareness and need for the Library’s Latino resources and advocating for the Library’s role in relation to literacy and cultural learning.

In 2013, the committee began to lay the groundwork for revamping the Latino Resource Center at the Central Library. The Library’s Latino Collection is housed on the 6th Floor of the Central Library and is a cultural and educational resource which chronicles and celebrates the history, literature, heritage, and contemporary contribution of Latinos in the United States.

Some immediate goals for 2014 include:

  • Increasing the presence of the Latino Collection by branding its place within the Central Library.
  • Expanding the offerings of the collection by adding additional items to the collection.
  • Enhancing the value of the collection by pursuing an oral history component of the collection.
  • Creating digital collections to expand the reach of the Latino Collection.
  • Transitioning the collection from a static collection to a dynamic collection through programming, exhibits and lectures.
