This month, the SAPLF worked with Eagle Scout Nick Finch to bring “Little Lending Libraries” to our community. This “take a book, return a book” in public spaces is an opportunity for the community to share their favorite literature and stories.
In its most basic form, a “Little Lending Library” is a box, or in Nick’s case boxes and benches, full of books where anyone may stop by and pick up a book (or two) and bring back another book to share. With the other non-profits that are involved – Gemini Ink, Good Samaritan Center and Say Si – we are proud to be part of this literacy outreach. This will be the fourth Eagle Scout project that the Library Foundation has sponsored. The first Eagle Scout project beautifully landscaped our undeveloped front yard, the second created a much needed storage facility in an adjacent smaller building on the property and the third project was a rainwater harvesting collector system which allows us to water our landscape while observing city water restrictions.
