Funding Our Libraries - The San Antonio Public Library Foundation

Funding Our Libraries

Led by a 40-member Board of Directors, SAPLF has contributed more than $48 million in financial support and added awareness to improve our public libraries. The Foundation’s steadfast advocacy and public awareness efforts have played a role in increases to the Library’s city-funded budgets – resulting in branch expansions, extended operational hours, and a boost in materials budgets. The Library Foundation supports a wide range of Public Library programs targeted to all ages and needs, with new programming and technology introduced regularly to meet the growing and changing demands of the community. Endowments and grants to the Foundation have helped fund adult, teen, and children’s areas in many branches, replete with advanced technology and materials.

Local Partnerships

Special Collections such as the Latino Collection and Texana support the interests of our community, while our Born to Read and the Literacy Caravan programs provide outreach to support early reading in under-served areas of San Antonio and Bexar County. Critical investment in digital downloads during the pandemic has been addressed to help meet urgent community demand. SAPLF, in partnership with Snack Pak 4 Kids and the San Antonio Public Library, distributed more than 4,000 Born to Read books and snack packs from Dec. 16, 2020 to Feb. 1, 2021. Circulation and total number of users rose at the libraries where snacks were distributed.
